HID pivCLASS RKCL40 Dual Interface Reader with LCD
The HID pivCLASS RKCL40 Dual Interface Reader with LCD is engineered for organizations that require the highest levels of identity assurance in FIPS 201 "Controlled" and "Limited" access areas. Combining contact and contactless smart card technologies with an integrated keypad and LCD display, the RKCL40 delivers flexible authentication options for government, military, critical infrastructure, and enterprise security applications.
When used with the HID pivCLASS Authentication Module (PAM) or an OSDP-compliant strong authentication controller, the RKCL40 performs advanced credential authentication by verifying that the presented credential is genuine, the card data has not been altered, the credential is not a duplicate or clone, and the card has not been lost or stolen. In Card Authentication Key (CAK) mode, the reader supports any PIV-based credential with a contactless interface containing a valid CAK certificate. In PIV+PIN mode, the reader performs on-card PIN verification while validating the PIV Authentication Key certificate to provide an even higher level of identity assurance.
The HID pivCLASS RKCL40 features dual contact and contactless interfaces, providing operational redundancy if a card's contactless antenna is damaged. The reader can be configured for Wiegand or strong authentication operation using PAM or compatible third-party controllers and supports dynamic authentication mode switching when paired with PAM. It also maintains compatibility with legacy credential technologies, including iCLASS®, iCLASS SE®, and HID Prox®, making it an excellent solution for organizations transitioning to advanced authentication without replacing their entire credential infrastructure.
