HID pivCLASS Biometric Reader
The HID pivCLASS Biometric Reader is engineered for organizations that require the highest level of physical access security. Designed for use in FIPS 201 "Controlled," "Limited," and "Exclusion" access areas, the reader provides advanced identity verification when paired with a HID pivCLASS Authentication Module (PAM). This combination enables strong authentication by verifying that the credential is authentic, has not been altered, compromised, or stolen, while ensuring PIN credentials have not been shared.
When biometric authentication is enabled, the HID pivCLASS Biometric Reader delivers HID's highest level of identity assurance. The authentication process includes PIN verification, validation of the PIV Authentication Key certificate, confirmation of the fingerprint template stored on the credential, and comparison of the user's live fingerprint against the stored biometric template. These layered security measures help protect highly sensitive facilities from unauthorized access.
The HID pivCLASS Biometric Reader features a comprehensive hardware design that combines contact and contactless smart card technologies with an integrated keypad, fingerprint sensor, and liquid crystal display. A dual reader interface provides contact card backup should the contactless interface become unavailable. The reader also supports configurable one-, two-, or three-factor authentication based on time of day, day of week, or changing threat levels, making it an ideal solution for government agencies, defense facilities, critical infrastructure, healthcare organizations, and other high-security environments.
